He only hoped he could make his mark on what Hollywood could be again. He had landed a few jobs, mostly TV commercials, editing a few music videos, but nothing he considered worthwhile. Guy tried to think back to the time when he was in love with Rose, but he couldn’t. He knew he had love for her, but even with the setting sun making her auburn hair glisten against her fair skin and her emerald eyes, he couldn’t bring himself back to that place. He wondered if he ever had beenin love with her.

Rose paid the Mexicans fifteen dollars apiece and offered each a Popsicle of his choice. “I have strawberry and orange. You boys must be hot; I know I am and all I’ve done is hang out with this guy.” She nudged Guy on the shoulder and rummaged through the cooler. Each of the men was wiping away sweat by stretching the bottom of their already drenched T-shirts to the tops of their shiny foreheads. Neither of them wanted a Popsicle, however. Only one was bold enough to ask for a beer—the alpha of course. He sort of bowed his head in a patient dog-like fashion. He rolled the bottom of his stretched-out shirt with his fists giving Guy a good look at his full but firm stomach. His heavy eyebrows blocked the sun from his dark brown eyes that were fixed on Guy. The other three waited patiently just behind him. “Is that all right, honey?” Rose asked.

Without a word Guy got up from the stoop and brushed her away. She started collecting the beer cans at her feet like nothing had happened. Guy’s newly lit cigarette crackled between his lips. The brave one watched as Guy worked over the remnants of the cooler slowly as if picking the perfect cold beer. Rose ran into the lobby with an armful of crushed cans to throw away. Guy was a little drunk and she could tell, so she took her time inside.

Guy’s pants were loose around his waist and tugged on his boxers, revealing much of his behind. A bead of sweat trickled down his back and nestled itself between the soft hairs that covered the top of his crack. The alpha continued to stare and held his breath but said nothing. The other three’s attention was on the cooler. After picking that perfect Bud, Guy quickly turned around with a charismatic smile for his state of drunk.

“Here we go.” He handed the Mexican an icecold beer.

“Gracias.”The worker reached for it but with his sweaty palms and the melted ice on the can, it slipped through his fingers. Guy caught it before it hit the ground and handed it back to him.

Distracted by his dark eyes, Guy accidentally grazed the worker’s crotch with the beer and the back of his hand—just as firm as his stomach and chest appeared to be.
